Lebanon, Ill. – The Lewis University baseball team collected 24 runs on 29 hits, including 12 for extra bases, in the Flyers 14-5 and 10-4 sweep of McKendree on Saturday (April 26) at Hypes Field.

The Flyers improve to 22-21 on the season and 14-15 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Bearcats fall to 14-27 on the year and 9-21 in league action.

"Eann and Kyle both gave us great outings today," Lewis head baseball coach Tim McDonough said. "We can be a pretty good team when we get good starting pitching and score runs the way we did today.

"Hopefully, we can carry this momentum into tomorrow's games."

In the first game, the Flyers got on the board early and often, knocking out McKendree starter Ben Dallesasse after three innings with a 7-1 lead.

Every Flyer in the line-up collected at least one hit as Lewis collected a season-high 20 hits. Sophomore Austin Mastela (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) led Lewis with three hits, including a solo home run, and three RBI. McKendree pushed three runs across the plate in the sixth on four hits and added a single run with a solo home run by Jeff Tolliver in the seventh to cut into the Flyers lead, 10-5.

The Flyers added two runs on three hits in the eighth and ninth innings to put the game away for good.

Lewis starter Eann Cox (Erie, Ill./Erie) collected the win, giving up five runs on eight hits in a complete game effort. Cox (5-4) also struck out a career-high 11 and walked six.

In the second game, senior Ben Albano (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) and Murray's bats stayed hot as both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Albano picked up three RBI as he legged out two doubles. Senior Drew Buddle (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) and Murray hit back-to-back solo home runs in the first inning.

The Bearcats out-hit the Flyers, 10-9, but only scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and added two in the bottom of the seventh.

Lewis starter Kyle Klosak (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) picked up his third win of the season, allowing four runs on 10 hits. Klosak (3-2) struck out four and walked two.
