Romeoville, Ill. – The sixth-seeded Lewis University baseball team will take on the third-seeded University of Indianapolis in the 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday (May 8) at 11 AM at USI Field, the conference announced on Sunday (May 4).

The Flyers (26-23, 18-17 GLVC) went 1-3 against the Greyhounds (29-21, 23-13 GLVC) in a four-game series over April 5-6th at Greyhound Park in Indianapolis, Ind.

"We obviously know Indianapolis real well after playing them so many times in the regular season and post-season over the past few years," Lewis head baseball coach Tim McDonough said. "We are excited for the challenge and look forward to competing in the tournament."

"It is a new season and everybody starts with a new slate," McDonough continued. "I really like the way we are playing right now, so anything could happen."

Lewis is lead by senior outfielders Ben Albano (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) and Jake Murray (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North). Albano leads the GLVC in total bases (106), second in slugging (.654) and doubles (16), seventh in hits (63) and home runs (7) while posting the league's ninth-best batting average (.389). Murray leads the conference in home runs (9) and doubles (17) and is second in total bases (104).

On the mound, Lewis junior Eann Cox (Erie, Ill./Erie) has tallied a league-high 79.2 innings pitched in 12 appearances for the Flyers. Cox (6-4) is fifth with 63 strikeouts while freshman pitcher Sam Couch (Bolingbrook, Ill./Joliet Catholic) is tied for third with seven wins on the season.
