HTML ResultsROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 19 Lewis men's swimming set two Lewis Pool records on Saturday (Jan. 10) afternoon in a non-conference dual meet with Olivet Nazarene. The Flyers topped the Tigers 139-122.
Lewis won nine total events.
The Flyers set a new relay pool record in the 400 freestyle relay. In the final event of the day, junior
Matt Bacinich (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), junior
Tommy Cornes (Napa, Cali./Vintage), sophomore
Aidan Brennan (Naples, Fla. /Barron Collier) and sophomore
Bryan Wiener (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) combined for a time of 3:08.03 to win the event in record setting fashion.
Lewis' other pool record was by junior
Victor Tarin (Godelleta, Valencia, Spain/IES Conselleria). His time in the 100 butterfly of 49.53 won the event by more than three seconds to get the pool record. Tarin also won the 200 free (1:43.19), 100 free (46.77) and swam the third leg in Lewis' 400 medley relay victory (3:27.45).
Brennan used a time of 9:45.65 to earn a win in the 1000 freestyle. He also won the 500 free (4:48.35). Wiener won the 100 backstroke in 50.84. Bacinich totaled a time of 21.69 to take first in the 50 freestyle.
"ONU is a good team and there were some great races," Lewis head coach
Roger Karns said. "We are still very fatigued from training but we raced well. I am pleased with the effort even if it didn't always show up in great times."
Lewis returns to the pool on Jan. 23 in a home meet with the University of Chicago. The first event is set for 6 p.m. in the Friday non-conference evening meet.
