Bourbonnais, Ill. - Lewis University junior
Isaac Jean-Paul (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) narrowly missed an NCAA Automatic Qualifying berth with a winning high jump of 2.16m (7'1") to help the No. 16 Flyer men's track and field team to a third-place showing at the NAIA vs. NCAA Challenge, hosted by Olivet Nazarene, on Saturday (Jan. 24) afternoon. That mark also is currently the best high jump in the country.
Jean-Paul added a second-place finish of 6.87m (22'6 1/2") in the long jump for the Flyers.
Olivet Nazarene (165) won the overall title, followed by Bethel (Ind.) (128.5), Lewis (107.5), Calvin (69.5), St. Francis (Ill.) (68) and St. Ambrose (63.5).
Flyer junior
Adam Barr (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) picked up another win and NCAA Provisional mark in the weight throw with a heave of 18.94m (62'1 1/2").
Lewis sophomore
Shawn Milhauser (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) captured the 800-meter run title (1:57.82), followed by a second-place finish from freshman
Dave Tahiraj (Chicago, Ill./Mather), who crossed the finish line in 2:01.55.
Tahiraj ran a leg of Lewis' second-place Distance Medley Relay (10:24.34), along with senior
Andrew McLain (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead), junior
Jesus Gonzales (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) and
James Frederickson (Racine, Wis./Case).
Flyer freshman
James Kaht (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond Burton) placed second in the 1-mile run (4:24.55), while junior
Alex Bomer (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park, Ill.) added a runner-up finish of 12.74m (41'9 1/2") in the triple jump.
"The men had a solid day with a lot of season PR's," Lewis head men's track and field coach
Dana Schwarting said. "I am really excited for the men's team as we head into our meet next week."
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 31), as the Flyers head to Allendale, Mich., to participate in the GVSU 5-Way. Action is slated to begin at 5:30 PM ET.
