Allendale, Mich. - Lewis University junior
Isaac Jean-Paul (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) notched a school-record and NCAA Automatic Qualifying high jump of 2.19m (7'2 1/4") to lead the No. 8 men's track and field team at the GVSU Quad, hosted by Grand Valley State, at the Kelly Family Sports Center on Saturday (Jan. 31) evening.
As a team, Lewis finished third overall with 67 points. Grand Valley State won the event with 218 points, followed by Lincoln (Mo.) (71) and Saint Joseph's (65).
"We had a few really bright spots (today), but overall, I thought we looked really flat," Lewis head men's track and field coach
Dana Schwarting said. "We didn't have any big sparks early in the day and only a few of our athletes got up and took advantage of the competition."
The Flyers claimed two NCAA Provisional marks in the 3,000-meter run as senior
Andrew McLain (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished second with a time of 8:21.65, followed by a third-place mark of 8:22.92 by sophomore
Shawn Milhauser (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac).
Lewis senior
Kevin Dorenkamper (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) and junior
Adam Barr (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) both earned third-place finishes and NCAA Provisional marks. Dorenkamper picked up a career-best time of 8.18 in the 60-meter hurdles, while Barr had a mark of 18.78m (61'7 1/2") in the weight throw.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Feb. 6), as the Flyers head to Michigan to participate in the Hillsdale Wide-Track Classic. Action is set to begin at 12 PM ET.
