Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University junior
Adam Barr (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) won two events and notched a NCAA Provisional to set the tone for the No. 16 Flyer men's track and field team at the Lewis Open at the JFK Recreation Center Fieldhouse on Friday (Jan. 9) night.
Barr set a NCAA Provisional and won the weight throw with a toss of 18.30m (60' 1/2"). He added a victory in the shot put (15.05m/49'4 1/2").
Lewis freshman
Devin Ingram (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) took home the 55-meter dash title with a time of 6.51, while sophomore
Rapher Ryan (Willowbrook, Ill./Nazareth Academy) was a runner-up in the 200-meter dash (23.48).
Senior
Kevin Dorenkamper (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) finished second in both the 300-meter dash (36.41) and 55-meter hurdles (7.73). Dorenkamper and Ryan teamed up with junior
Andre Barnes (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) and freshman
Chris Wilson (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka) to win the 4x400 relay (3:32.18).
Sophomore
James Frederickson (Racine, Wis./Case) rolled to the 3,000-meter run championship, crossing the finish line in 8:49.51. Flyer sophomore
Michael Leet (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) was second in the same event with a time of 8:59.31.
Freshman
Mervyn John (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) won the triple jump with a leap of 13.67m (44'10").
"The men had some ups and downs as a lot of the team is a little out of shape coming off break," Lewis head men's track and field coach
Dana Schwarting said. "They really need to work the next three weeks and we will have no problem hitting our stride."
Lewis will be back in action on Friday (Jan. 16), as the Flyers host the Illiana Invitational. Action is set to begin at 4 PM at the JFK Recreation Center Fieldhouse.
