ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Jake Dixon (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) and Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) will join the Lewis men's volleyball program for the 2017 season.
"Both of these guys have just scratched the surface of their overall ability," Lewis head coach
Dan Friend said. "They are a great addition to the Lewis men's volleyball family. I'm looking forward to seeing them make their impact at Lewis both on and off the court."
Dixon (6-6, 205, OH) earned 11 varsity letters at Bethel Park High School, with four in volleyball, four in basketball and three in football. As a junior, he was named First Team All-State, First Team All-Conference and picked up WPIAL MVP accolades. As a sophomore, he was selected Second Team All-WPIAL and First Team All-Conference. Academically, he is a high honor roll student. He played club volleyball for the Pittsburgh Volleyball Club.
"Jake is an excellent overall athlete who has a heavy arm," Friend said. "He is also a fantastic student who will help us maintain excellence in the classroom. We look for him to really take off at the next level."
Mitchem (6-9, 185, MB) was named All-Conference as a junior at Bolingbrook High School. He played club volleyball at Sports Performance during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. His mother, Jackie, played basketball at Lewis from 1987-91.
"Tyler has a ton of potential with his size, long frame and athleticism," Friend said. "I'm also always excited about getting a second generation Flyer."
Lewis is ranked No. 8 in the nation opens the 2016 season on Jan. 2 against UC Santa Barbara in a 4 p.m. first serve at Neil Carey Arena.
