Plainfield, Ill. - The Lewis University men's tennis team earned a pair of victories from four different players as the host Flyers earned the 6-3 regional win over Walsh University at the Five Star Tennis Center on Monday (Feb. 16) night.
"It was a good regional win," Lewis head men's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "Walsh has some good players at the top of their lineup and we needed to play well to beat them."
With the win, Lewis improves to 2-0 on the season while the visiting Cavaliers drop to 5-3.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis seniors
Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and
Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) paired together for the 8-2 victory over Walsh's Ross Whittaker and Pablo Cabezon. Levandi added a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cabezon at No. 1 singles, while Aunapuu bested Vasiliy Vidmanov, 6-1, 7-6 (3) at No. 2 singles.
Lewis' No. 2 doubles tandem of sophomore
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) and
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) defeated Carlos Jaque and Iagos Lucca, 8-2. Srdanovic would later come from behind for the 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Whittaker at No. 3 singles, while Norasith beat Jaque, 6-1, 7-6 (5), at No. 4 singles.
Lewis returns to action on February 28th, as they head to Georgia for a 1:30 PM ET match with Shorter.
