COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a volleyball battle only the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association can provide; No. 2 Lewis men's volleyball fell 3-2 (25-23, 25-27, 34-32, 16-25, 16-14) on Friday (March 13) evening at No. 11 Ohio State.

Lewis had no answer for Ohio State's Michael Henchy. The senior hit .756 with 32 kills on 41 swings and just one error for the Buckeyes.

Lewis looked an 0-2 deficit in the face after trailing the majority of the second set. An early 5-1 deficit was finally erased when Lewis tied the score at 20 on an ace by Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville). An attack error by Ohio State followed to put Lewis up 21-20. The squads exchanged side outs until an Ohio State attack went long for point 27 for the Flyers.

The Flyers and Buckeyes participated in an epic third set which featured 20 ties and eight lead changes set. It ultimately resulted in the Buckeyes winning 34-32. The two squads went back and forth from point 21 on but Lewis' best chance to win likely would have been to hold on to leads of 14-11 and 20-18. Lewis did earn set points at 25-24 and 30-29 but were unable to take advantage. A Henchy ace ended the game

Lewis tied it up at 2-2 thanks to an easy win in set four. The Flyers hit .650 (14-1-20) as a team in the game.

The Flyers never held a lead in set five. Ohio State scored three in a row to take a 9-6 lead only to see the Flyers knot it up at 14 on a triple block by the Flyers. The 14-14 score was the fourth tie of the set. But with the match on the line Ohio State went to Henchy for kills on points 15 and 16.

The Buckeyes out-hit the Flyers .368 to .323. Senior Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) picked up a double-double of 20 kills and 10 digs for Lewis. Senior Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) followed with 15 kills. Lewis out-blocked Ohio State 17.5 to 7.0 but saw the home standing Buckeyes record 47 digs to Lewis' 35.

The loss snaps a 13-match win streak for the Flyers.

Ohio State improves to 14-4 (7-2 MIVA). Lewis falls to 15-2 (6-1 MIVA). Lewis returns to MIVA play on Tuesday (March 17) at home against IPFW. First serve is 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
