Birmingham, Ala. - The Lewis University men's track and field team earned its highest finish of the century as the Flyers added two more All-America performances to finish tied for eighth at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, hosted by Alabama Huntsville, at the Birmingham SportsPlex on Saturday (March 14) evening. Lewis' previous best finish was 12th overall in 2005.
"We competed hard right to the end and almost every athlete outperformed their incoming ranking," Lewis head men's track and field coach
Dana Schwarting said. "It was a team effort and coming home with an eighth-place finish is huge for our program."
Adams State won the overall team title with 45 points, while Lewis and Academy of Art tied for eighth with 24 points.
Flyer senior
Andrew McLain (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) earned his second All-America accolade of the weekend with a seventh-place and season-best showing of 8:11.83 in the 3,000-meter run. He claimed All-America honors in the 5,000-meter run on Friday night.
Lewis junior
Andre Barnes (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) earned his first All-America award with an eighth-place finish of 48.29 in the 400-meter dash.
Lewis returns to action on March 20th, as the Flyers head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to participate in the Alabama Relays.
