TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lewis men's track and field opened the outdoor season in fine fashion on Friday (March 20) evening at the NCAA Division I John Mitchell Alabama Relays.

Senior Andrew McLain (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) won the 5K with a time of 14:18.17. His time easily met NCAA Provisional standards. The second place competitor was 12 seconds behind McLain.

Sophomore Shawn Milhauser (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) ran the 1500 meters in 3:49.40. He finished eighth with Lewis' second NCAA Provisional of the evening.

"Shawn and Andrew's provos will put them both in the top ranks of the nation and give them a lot of confidence moving forward," Lewis head coach Dana Schwarting said. "We came here to hit a great time so we can spend a few weeks training and recover the legs a little bit."

The Flyers continue action at the Alabama Relays on Saturday.
