Rosemont, Ill. -
Lewis University freshman pitcher Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) fanned 11 Findlay batters in her first collegiate start to lead the Flyer softball team to the 6-2 regional win over the Oilers in the Dome Invitational at The Dome At The Ballpark on Saturday (Feb. 27) morning.

Sanders (1-0) allowed two runs and six hits in 5.1 innings of work, while junior hurler Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and fanned four Oilers to earn the save.

"I'm really happy for Dara and her performance," Lewis head softball coach Becky Pearl said. "She came out and ready to go (this morning).

"For her first career start, she composed herself well and had herself a nice game."

With the win, Lewis improves to 2-1 on the campaign, while the Oilers fall to 1-2.

Offensively, Lewis racked up 10+ hits for the second-straight game, as they touched the Oilers pitching staff for 11 base knocks, including four doubles. Eight different Flyers recorded at least one hit.

Junior shortstop Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run, while sophomore right fielder Jenna Cairo (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) went 2-for-4 and scored twice.

"The consistency that we've shown in our hitting the last few games has been nice to see and hopefully we can continue that trend," Pearl said.

Findlay starting pitcher Jenna Inman (0-1)  took the loss for the Oilers, allowing four runs - three earned - and six hits in 2.1 innings of work.
