PDF BoxQUINCY, Ill. - No. 13 Lewis men's volleyball earned a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-18) Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association victory at Quincy on Friday (Feb. 5) evening. "I thought the guys did a nice job of playing with a sense of urgency," Lewis head coach
Dan Friend said. "We passed the ball well and controlled the net."
The Flyers out-hit the Hawks .420 to .184. Lewis held a 9.5 to 5.0 advantage in blocks. Senior
Scott Fifer (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) had 31 assists. Freshman
Mitch Perinar (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) hit .625 with 16 kills and one error. He added a match-high 11 digs for a double-double.
"Mitch had a great night with a double-double," Friend said. "We are working hard to get better each day and tonight was a good step."
The first set was an 8-7 Lewis lead when the Flyers scored seven of the next eight points. In the second, a 6-2 run put the Flyers in command at 21-15. The third was more of the same with Lewis earning a quick 9-3 lead and never looking back.
Junior
Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) had a match-high six blocks. The Flyers sided-out at a 75 percent clip.
Quincy falls to 4-6 (0-2 MIVA). Lewis improves to 7-4 (2-1 MIVA). Lewis returns to conference play on Saturday evening at Lindenwood.
