Senior
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) was Lewis' go-to hitter offensively. The middle hitter slammed down 10 of Lewis' 33 kills. The Flyers benefited from 20 Lindenwood attack errors. The home squad out-hit the Lions .256 to .184.
The opening two sets featured only one lead change. The third set had the most drama. Lindenwood put a 5-0 run together to grab a 12-9 advantage. Lewis chipped away and eventually took a 16-15 lead on an ace by junior
Trevor Weiskircher (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic). The Flyers would never trail again.
Saturday's sweep comes after the Flyers defeated Princeton and Quincy earlier this week, both in three sets.
"I'm proud of the guys for getting back-to-back conference sweeps," Lewis head coach
Dan Friend said.
Freshman
Jake Walenga (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) notched nine digs. Lewis out-blocked Lindenwood 7.5 to 6.0 with junior
Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) recording five blocks.
Lewis had six aces while not allowing Lindenwood to record a single ace. The Flyers also didn't allow an ace against Quincy on Friday.
"Jake and (Michael) Simmons for sure are doing a great job controlling the line," Friend said of his team's serve-receive. "Trevor is in that group as well. We are putting ourselves in position to use our middles."
Lindenwood falls to 4-12 (2-8 MIVA). The Flyers improve to 14-10 (8-5 MIVA). Lewis steps out of conference this week. First up is a visit to Saint Francis (PA) on Thursday (March 24) in a 7 p.m. ET start.
