NABC All-District Release
Romeoville, Ill. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced on Tuesday (March 22) that Lewis University sophomore forward
Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) has been selected as a 2016 NABC Division II Men's Basketball All-American and as a member of the Midwest Region All-District First Team. These awards are selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC.
He is Lewis' first All-American since Brandon Dagans earned it in 2009.
Strus led the Flyers in scoring (20.2 ppg), rebounding (8.4 ppg.) and assists (3.5 apg.) in 2015-16 as they won their first Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament title in 14 years. Strus, who was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player, averaged 18.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists-per-game in four Lewis wins during the GLVC Tournament.
Strus, a 2016 All-GLVC First Team selection, broke Lewis' single-season scoring record with 666 points and recorded his 1,000th career point in just his second season in a Flyer uniform. He also broke the Lewis single-season record for free throws made with 167. Strus finished the 2015-16 season ranked in Lewis' Top Ten in several different single-season categories, including rebounds (278; 3rd), scoring average (20.2 ppg.; 5th), FG made (216; 7th) and 3PT FG made (67; t-9th).
Earlier this season, Strus broke the Lewis single-game scoring record and tied the GLVC scoring record with a 52-point outburst, including a 12-for-14 performance from three-point range, in a 99-95 win over Northwood (Nov. 24). That performance helped guide Strus to USBWA National Player of the Week honors.
Lewis finished the season with a record of 24-9 and advanced to its second-straight NCAA Division II Tournament berth and 15th bid overall.
