Springfield, Ill. - The Lewis University softball team managed nine hits in two games, as Illinois Springfield (12-22, 4-12 GLVC) claimed the 4-1, 13-3 (5 inn.) Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader sweep over the visiting Flyers (15-19-1, 4-11-1 GLVC) at the Land Of Lincoln on Saturday (April 2) afternoon.
  Lewis returns to action on Sunday (April 3), as they head to Lebanon, Ill., for a 12 PM GLVC twinbill against McKendree.
  "Today was one of those days where not much went right and we'll have to regroup and get ready for McKendree tomorrow," Lewis head softball coach

  UIS scored four unanswered runs from the second through the fourth inning, as the host Prairie Stars earned the 4-1 victory over Lewis in the opening game of the doubleheader.

  UIS scored 11 runs in the first two innings and never looked back as the Prairie Stars completed the doubleheader sweep with a 13-3 (5 inn.) win over the Flyers. UIS' trio of left fielder Amanda Gosbeth (1-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 runs), first baseman Molly Manietta (2-for-2, HR, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and shortstop Alexa McClaughry (2-for-2, 3 RBI run) batted a combined 5-for-7 with eight RBI and five runs scored in the victory.
