Auburndale, Fla. - The Lewis University baseball team took the Walsh University pitching staff deep four times - led by two home runs from designated hitter
Kenny King (Orland Park, Ill./Providence ) - as the Flyers picked up the 14-5 regional victory over the Cavaliers at Myrtle Park #8 on Saturday (March 11).
King went 4-for-6 with five RBI and scored three times. He hit two-run homers in both the sixth and ninth innings for the Flyers.
The Flyers also received blasts from freshman third baseman
Austin Tittle (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and senior catcher
Austin Schultz (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg).
Tittle was 2-for-4 with five RBI, including a three-run shot in the sixth inning. Schultz (2 runs) went yard in the fifth inning.Â
With the win, Lewis improves to 1-11 on the campaign, while the Cavaliers drop to 7-3 on the season.
As a team, Lewis doubled its previous high of 10 hits with 20 base knocks against the Walsh pitching staff. Eight different Flyers scored at least one run.
Lewis sophomore left fielder
Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere) went 4-for-6 with two runs and a RBI.
The Flyers also received two hits apiece from junior first baseman
Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka), sophomore right fielder
Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove), senior center fielder
Brandon Collins (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Way North) and sophomore second baseman
Alex Kiszkowski (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg).
Lewis starting pitcher
Sam Couch (Bolingbrook, Ill./Joliet Catholic) picked up the victory for the Flyers. Couch (1-0) allowed five runs - two earned - and nine hits in six innings of work while striking out six batters.
The Flyers return to action on Wednesday (March 15) as they head to Indianapolis for a 4 PM ET showdown with Division I Butler.
