Louisville, Ky. - The Bellarmine University baseball team completed the series sweep of Lewis University taking both games of its Great Lakes Valley Conference twinbill, winning the opener 12-2 and following with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap at Knights Field on Saturday (Apr. 29).
With the sweep, Bellarmine improves to 31-15 overall and 18-6 in GLVC action, while the Flyers fall to 12-33 on the season and 6-18 in conference play.
Lewis returns to action on Wednesday (May 3), as they head across town to play local rival, St. Francis (Ill.), at 7 PM.

Bellarmine exploded for a seven-run fifth inning to cruise to the 12-2 victory over the Flyers in the opener.

Jay Militello (Elmwood Park, Ill. /Fenwick) took the loss for the Flyers, allowing three runs, three hits and two walks in 2.1 innings of work.
Lewis sophomore left fielder
Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere) and senior designated hitter
Brandon Collins (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Way North) each went 2-for-3 for the Flyers. Rutherford added a run and a RBI.

Bellarmine surged to a 6-0 lead over Lewis after five innings and never looked back in the 6-3 win over the Flyers.
Lewis starting pitcher
George Manikas (Lockport, Ill. /Joliet Catholic) was tagged with the loss, surrendering three runs, six hits and two walks in 3.1 innings of action, while fanning two batters.
Lewis junior first baseman
Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) accounted for two of the Flyers' five base hits in the contest.
