Springfield, Ill. - The University of Illinois at Springfield completed the Great Lakes Valley Conference series sweep over the Lewis University baseball team with the 7-2 and 9-4 victories over the visiting Flyers at the UIS Baseball Field on Sunday (Apr. 9).
With the sweep, UIS improves to 19-12 on the campaign and 9-3 in GLVC play, while the Flyers fall to 6-24 overall and 2-10 in conference action.
Lewis returns to action on Tuesday (Apr. 11), as the Flyers head to Chicago for a 3 PM non-conference match-up against Saint Xavier.

UIS scored six unanswered runs, including a five-run sixth, to earn the 7-2 win over the Flyers in the opener.

Charlie Wright (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) took the loss for the Flyers. Wright allowed three runs and one hit, while walking two without retiring one Prairie Star batter.

Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) accounted for both of the Flyer RBI, including a solo home run. Flyer freshman shortstop

UIS jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in the 9-4 victory over Lewis in the nightcap.

Jake Herron (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) was tagged with the loss, giving up seven runs and eight hits in five innings, while striking out six batters.
Tyrell went 2-for-4 and scored twice for the Flyers, while designated hitter
Kenny King (Orland Park, Ill./Providence ) collected two hits and drove in a run.
Flyer sophomore left fielder
Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere) drove in a pair of runs, while senior catcher
Austin Schultz (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg) connected for a solo home run.
