CHICAGO – The 25th ranked Lewis men's swimming team split with Olivet Nazarene and Chicago on Friday at the University of Chicago Triangular Meet in Chicago. The Flyers defeated Olivet Nazarene 159.50-96.50 but lost to Chicago 160-116.
Lewis won seven events in the meet with
Yurii Kharko (Odessa, Ukraine) winning three events and
Helio Meggito Pereira () taking the top spot in two events.
Pereira won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.72 while
Sumner Latta (Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh North) took sixth in the event at 1:02.15.
Kharko finished first in the 200 freestyle touching the wall at 1:44.42.
Brock Star (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) finished third in the event with a time of 1:45.18 while
Jackson Mugg (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East) took seventh in a time of 1:47.44.
The Flyers had four of the top seven finishers in the 50 freestyle led by Kharko and
Guillaume Bolivard (Martinique, France/Lycee Centre Sud) took first and second respectively. Kharko finished in a time of 21.07 and Bolivard touched the wall at 21.36.
Jared Stigant (Edgemead, Cape Town/South African College Schools) was fifth at 21.91 and Star finished seventh in a time of 22.33.
Kharko and Bolivard also went 1-2 in the 100 freestyle with Kharko winning the event with a time of 46.29 and Bolivard finished at 47.21. Stigant took fourth with a time of 47.94 and Star was fifth at 48.35.
Pereira picked up his second event of the evening in the 200 breaststroke touching the wall at 2:09.37 and finishing nearly half a second ahead of Chicago's Nick Ding.
Jesse Drake (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) and Latta finished seventh and eighth respectively in the event.
Mugg won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:45.92 while
Michael Roach (New Market, Maryland/Linganore) finished fifth with a time of 5:00.63.
Bolivard took the top spot in the 100 backstroke touching the wall at 53.61.
Jeremy Burbrink (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) took fourth in the event with a time of 56.24 and Roach was seventh at 59.10.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Stigant, Mugg, Pereira and Star finished third touching the wall at 3:14.24 and the 400 medley relay team of Bolivard, Pereira,
Colin Williams (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) and Kharko took second with a time of 3:27.89.
The Flyers are back in action next Friday (Jan. 25) hosting Lincoln College at 5 p.m.
