MOLINE, Ill. - The Lewis University men's bowling team finished in 19th place out of 46 teams over the weekend at the Leatherneck Classic at Highland Park Bowl. The Flyers finished the tournament with an 8,507 two-day total. McKendree was the top qualifier with a 9,861 total and went on to win in bracket match play.
Jawuan Burks (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) became the first Flyer in program history to earn All-Tournament Team honors after taking fifth place with a 1,320 six-game total. He rolled games of 232, 248, 203, 235, 192 and 210. Charlie Reid of McKendree won the tournament by 130 pins with a 1,470 total.
Also scoring in traditional play for the Flyers' varsity squad was
Caleb Kirby (/Lincoln Way West) with an 1,185,
Jimmy Rozhon (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) with a 1,020,
Steve Plane (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) with a 1,019,
Tyler Wilmoth (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) with a 763 in four games and
Eric Wesel (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) with a 355 in two games. The Flyers shot games of 1,052, 938, 897, 951, 932 and 892 Saturday for a 5,662 total and were in 16th place after the first day with Baker games played Sunday, where
Gavin Taylor (Alton, Ill./Alton) also contributed.
Lewis also fielded a junior varsity team, taking 18th place with a 6,827.
Dakota Hamende (Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) shot a 1,058,
Ben Smith (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) had a 934,
Matthew Carroll (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) rolled a 903,
Jaylen Williams (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom Township) had a 898 and
Rey Valdez (/St. Rita) added a 676.
Lewis is back in action Nov. 30 at Team Match Games at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
