ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's 13th ranked women's volleyball team continues to hold the top spot in this week's Midwest Regional Rankings released by the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon. The top eight teams in the final regional rankings will earn a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The selections for the tournament will be announced via a selection show next Monday (Nov. 25) at 6:30 p.m. (CST) on NCAA.com.
The Flyers open play in the GLVC Tournament this Friday (Nov. 22) as the number two seed and will take on seventh seeded Illinois Springfield at 2:30 p.m. at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill.
LAST TIME OUT – Lewis extended their winning streak to five matches sweeping William Jewell at home on Senior Day last Saturday.
Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York) led the Flyers with 14 kills in the contest while
Tori Foster (Munster, Ind./Munster) added eight kills.
SCOUTING ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD – The Prairie Stars were swept by Rockhurst in their home finale last Saturday. The Stars had their two match winning streak snapped with the loss to fall to 19-13 on the season and 8-7 in the GLVC. Ali Splitt, Hannah Nicolaisen and Brianna Bush lead the UIS attack averaging 2.89, 2.65 and 2.52 kills per set respectively.
LEWIS – ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD SERIES – Friday's contest marks the 14th meeting all-time between the Flyers and Prairie Stars with Lewis having won the first 13 meetings. This will be the second time in the last three years that the two sides have met in the GLVC Tournament. The Flyers won that matchup 3-1 in the semifinal round of the 2017 conference tournament. Lewis won the regular season matchup 3-1 back on Oct. 8.
