MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Lewis University men's golf team finished in fifth place Tuesday at the Buccaneer Spring Classic at Irene Golf and Country Club. The Flyers shot rounds of 317, 305 and 308 to finish with a 930 total over the two days of the tournament to finish at +66 on the par-72 course.
A second Lewis team also competed at the tournament, finishing in seventh place, recording rounds of 311, 328 and 312 to finish with a 951 (+87). Christian Brothers won the tournament with an 883 (290-305-288), while West Georgia was second with a 900 (307-300-293).
Leading the Flyers' fifth place squad was
Trey Tussey (LaSalle, Ill./), who shot rounds of 78-72-78 to finish with a 228 total (+12), good for a tie for 12th overall.
Braden Bentley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) carded a 232 (79-79-74) to place 19th,
Jacob Steinert (Pittsboro, N.C./) shot a 239 (80-83-76),
Aser Ruiz (The Woodlands, Texas/) had a 240 (840-76-80) and
Cole Elmore (Salina, Kan./) added a 241 (80-78-83).
Brett Startz (Magnolia, Texas/) led the second Lewis team with a 230 (76-75-79) to tie for 14th.
Jake Pluth (Shorewood, Ill./) added a 236 (75-86-75),
Ian Fitzpatrick (Winter Garden, Fla./Foundation Academy) had a 244 (79-87-78),
Matthew Hardin (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) recorded a 245 (81-84-80) and
Colin Borowiak (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) had a 257 (92-83-82).
Daniel Maybee of Christian Brothers won the tournament with an even par 216 (72-75-69), while teammate Tanner Munzel was second with a 219 (70-75-74).
Lewis returns to the links March 23 at the Washburn Invitational at Topeka Country Club in Topeka, Kansas.
