ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's fifth ranked men's volleyball team travels to Palo Alto, Calif., for a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday at Burnham Pavilion. The Flyers and Cardinal meet on Friday evening at 9 p.m. (CST) and on Saturday at 8 p.m. (CST).
Last Time Out – Lewis extended its winning streak to a season high six matches with a straight set win over Loyola last Saturday at Neil Carey Arena.
Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) led the Flyers with 19 kills while hitting .704 and recorded 10 digs in the contest.
Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) finished the match with 11 kills and
Jason Gibbs (Bellaire, Texas/Bellarie) recorded a career-high with 11 digs.
MIVA Standings – Lewis reached the halfway point in the MIVA season after its win last Saturday. The Flyers are in first place with a 6-1 record and have a game and a half lead over Lindenwood and are two games ahead of McKendree for the top spot.
MIVA Statistical Rankings – Mitchem leads the MIVA in hitting percentage at .516 percent and is fourth in the league in blocks per set at 1.05. Coenen is second in the conference in kills with 223 and is third in kills per set at 3.98.
Kyle Bugée (Cupertino, CA, Homestead) leads the league in aces per set with 0.62 while Coenen is fourth at 0.38.
Kevin Kauling (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) is second in the conference in assists per set with 10.19.
As a team the Flyers rank first in MIVA in hitting percentage .346, kills with 770, assists with 717, service aces with 113 and service aces per set with 1.88. They're third in the conference in kills per set with 12.83 and fourth in assists per set with 11.95.
About Stanford – The Cardinal enters play this weekend with a record of 6-9 overall and are 2-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Stanford has lost four of its last five including a straight set loss at second ranked BYU last Saturday.
Junior opposite hitter Jaylen Jasper is second in the MPSF with 4.04 kills per set and third with 4.56 points per set. Redshirt freshman libero Justin Lui is second in the league with 2.23 digs per set, while junior Kyler Presho is fourth with 1.08 blocks per set.
Series vs. Stanford – The Cardinal lead the all-time series against Lewis 4-3. The Flyers won the last matchup between the two sides 3-0 on Jan. 9, 2015 at Maples Pavilion. That win snapped a four-match losing streak in the series for Lewis.
Up Next – The Flyers return to MIVA play next Friday (March 13) as it heads up to Gentile Arena to take on Loyola at 7 p.m.
