Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's volleyball team had 16 members of their squad earn Academic All-Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) honors, the league announced today (June 1). The award honors all MIVA student-athletes that own a 3.30 cumulative GPA through the spring semester at their respective institutions.
The Flyers had a pair of athletes earn a perfect 4.0 GPA with
Zach Pekol (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and
Luke Pekol (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy). The Pekol twins are just one of five MIVA athletes along with Nate Flayter (McKendree), Trace Klausing (Northern Kentuck) and Drew Palmer (Northern Kentucky) to accomplish the academic feat.
As a whole, there were 116 student-athletes from the MIVA's nine member schools that qualified for Academic All-MIVA status. Lewis, Loyola Chicago and Queens led the league with 55 of the 116 total honorees with the Flyers 16 academic standouts the third-most of any MIVA school.
