INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University's men's swimming team dropped its dual at Indiana University Purdue University Indianpolis (IUPUI) on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis, Ind. The Flyers are now 1-1 on the season while the Jags are also 1-1.
Lewis picked up its first event of the dual in the 200 yard freestyle as
Ruben van Leeuwen (Eindhoven, The Netherlands/CIU/Christelyk Lyceum Veenendaal) won the event with a time of 1:43.12.
Filip Bjorkholm (Västerås, Sweden/Widenska),
Russell Smith (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) and
Erik Fosen (Joliet, Ill./) finished sixth, seventh and eighth in the event with times of 1:48.53, 1:50.41 and 1:57.16 respectively.
van Leeuwen also had a second-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 52.34 seconds while
Carter Thoss (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) and
Josh Moellenhoff (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) finished fifth and sixth respectively with times of 55.46 and 56.81 seconds. van Leeuwen was third in the 50 free at 21.36 seconds.
Mariano Sosa (Olavarria, Argentina/) had a second-place finish in the 200 back finishing in a time of 1:53.40 while
Miguel Turcios (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Canterbury School),
Kevin Soltys (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) and
Michael Roach (New Market, Maryland/Linganore) finished sixth, seventh and eighth with times of 1:59.60, 2:00.45, and 2:04.77.
Sosa also had a third-place finish in the 100 back with a time of 53.13 and a fourth place finish in the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:59.18. Turcios was fifth in the time of 1:59.53 and Smith was sixth at 2:03.31.
Jackson Mugg (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East),
Isaac Rolfsen (Kalamazoo, Mich./Homeschool),
Rhys Taylor (Nottingham, England/National C of E Academy) and
Michael Roach (New Market, Maryland/Linganore) finished third-sixth in the 1000 free with times of 10:03.82, 10:10.02, 10:12.08 and 11:10.63 respectively.
Turcios was also fourth in the 100 back with a time of 53.67 seconds while Soltys and Thoss finished seventh and eighth with times of 54.78 and 58.99 seconds.
The Flyers finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively in the 200 fly led by Bjorkholm with a time of 1:59.98,
Ari Kissel (Berlin, Germany/) finished at 2:01.46, Moellenhoff at 2:07.72 and
Lucas Mourao (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Presbiteriano Mackenzie) at 2:08.11.
Kissel took third in the 100 free at 47.70 seconds while
Ethan Fox (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) finished sixth at 49.35 seconds, Smith was seventh at 49.69 seconds and James Gould finished eighth at 54.83 seconds.
Jabari Ramsey (Land O' Lakes, Fla./Land O' Lakes) was fourth in the 100 breaststroke at 59.30 seconds while Taylor finished fifth at 1:00.00,
Alec Danko (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) was seventh at 1:03.01 and
Matthew Senese (Joliet, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) finished eighth at 1:03.30.
Lewis' 200 medley relay team of Sosa, Ramsey, Thoss and Kissel finished third at 1:37.09 and the team of Soltys, Senese, Mourao and
Adrian Wlodarz (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) was fifth at 1:38.97 and the team of Fox,
Alec Danko (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central), Moellenhoff and Gould was sixth at 1:42.88.
The Flyer 200 free relay team of Wlodarz, van Leeuwen, Kissel and Fox finished at 1:26.20 while the quartet of Soltys, Turcios, Mourao and Smith finished at 1:31.16 and the squad of Roach,
Jacob Przylucki (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South), Gould and Fosen came in at 1:35.20.
Lewis is back in action next Saturday as it travels to Allendale, Mich., to take on Grand Valley State at 12 p.m. (CDT).
