Flyers Host Panthers; Bearcats In Home Finale

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's soccer team looks to extend its four-game win streak at home this weekend. The Flyers will face Drury on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and conclude the weekend against Southwest Baptist for senior day at 2:30 p.m. It's the final home weekend of the regular season for Lewis.

Last Time Out – The Flyers extended their win streak last weekend beating Rockhurst and William Jewell. Dimitri Huitron (Aurora, Ill./Oswego East) and Aris Oluwatuyi (Lagos, Nigeria/The International Sports Academy) both scored to win the game against Rockhurst while Arturs Gorodnickis (Riga, Latvia/Riga), Justin Darlage (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West), Edrik Padilla (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville), and Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) all scored against William Jewell in the 4-1 victory. Sebastian Doppelhofer (Liebmannweg, Austria/Kapfenburg) finished the weekend with two saves against Rockhurst and three saves against William Jewell.

Race for the GLVC Tournament – With four games left to play Lewis continues to battle for a spot in the GLVC tournament. After their wins last weekend, the Flyers were able to break the three-way tie with Missouri S&T and Missouri-St. Louis. They now currently sit at sixth with 19 points. They're ahead of Lindenwood and Missouri-St. Louis by three points who are tied for seventh. Lewis trails McKendree and Illinois Springfield who each have 22 points.

Indianapolis currently holds the lead with 25 points, while Maryville sits at a close second with 24 points. Drury follows with 23 points and McKendree and Illinois Springfield are battling it out for the fourth spot, tied with 22 points. The top four teams in the final standings will host a first round contest with the highest remaining seed hosting the semifinals and finals.

League Leaders – Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) is tied for fourth in assists with four as well as fifth for game-winning goals with two. Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) is first in shots with 34 and is second in assists with seven. Beaulieu and Nathaniel Campbell (Palm Bay, Fla./Heritage) are tied for eighth in assists with four.

Doppelhofer is currently fifth in save percentage with .766 and fifth in saves with 36.

About Drury – The Panthers enter Friday's contest with a record of 7-4-2 overall, 7-1-2 GLVC. Last weekend they won both of their contests defeating Southern Indiana 3-1 and McKendree 2-1. Drury has scored 27 goals this season and are led by Jamie O'Brien with eight goals while Adam Hamdaoua has tallied five goals. They are followed by Joshua Lewis-Evans, Mitchell Vaughn, and Ian Conger with two goals apiece. Yannick Lamers has played the majority of minutes in goal and has made 30 saves with a goals against average of 0.83.

About Southwest Baptist – The Bearcats enter Sunday's contest with a record of 1-11 overall, 1-9 GLVC. Last weekend they split their contests with a 2-1 loss against second ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds and were shutout by Southern Indiana 1-0 on Sunday. SBU has six players who've scored a goal this season. Will vanHoornbeek has played the majority of minutes in goal and has made 52 saves with a goals against average of 2.85.

Series Stuff – Lewis leads the all-time series against Drury 10-7-1. The Flyers snapped a five-game winless streak against Drury with a 3-0 win this past April in Springfield, Mo. Drury has won five of the nine meetings all-time in Romeoville.

Lewis leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 2-0. Sunday's contest marks the second meeting all-time between the Flyers and Bearcats in Romeoville.  

Up Next – Lewis closes out the regular season next weekend as it travels back to Missouri to take on Maryville on Friday (Oct. 29) at 12 p.m. and Missouri S&T on Sunday (Oct. 31) at 2:30 p.m.
