ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's soccer team looks to secure its spot in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament but has eyes on securing a home playoff contest in the GLVC Tournament. The Flyers (9-3-2, 7-3-2) bring a four-game winning streak into the final weekend as they wrap up the regular season with two road contests at Maryville on Friday (Oct. 29) at 2:30 p.m. and at Missouri S&T on Sunday (Oct. 31) at 12 p.m.
Lewis is currently fifth in the GLVC standings with 1.92 points per game and trails Truman State for fourth who has 2.00 points per contest and Drury is third with 2.08 per outing. McKendree holds the top spot with an average of 2.23 ppg while Indianapolis is in second at 2.09 points per game.
The Flyers hold a slim lead over Southern Indiana for fifth and are also ahead of Missouri S&T whose seventh with 1.50 points per contest and Illinois Springfield is currently eighth with 1.45 ppg. The top four teams in the final standings will host a first round game in the GLVC Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 7. The highest remaining seed after the first round contests will host the semifinals and finals of the tournament the weekend of Nov. 12-14.
Missouri-St. Louis, Quincy, Rockhurst, Maryville and Lindenwood remain in the running for a spot in the conference tournament but need to win both games and get help to qualify. Just five points separates teams 7-13 in the standings.
About Maryville – The Saints enter Friday afternoon's contest with a record of 5-8-1 and are 4-7-1 in the GLVC after dropping both of their contests last weekend. Maryville came up on the short end of 3-2 overtime contest at Southern Indiana last Friday and then were defeated by McKendree 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints have scored 15 goals this season while allowing 18 and are led in scoring by Amanda Kaltwasser and Tori Calvert with 10 and nine points respectively. Kaltwasser and Calvert have each scored four goals this season. Katie Nash has seen a majority of the minutes in goal this season and has a 1.41 goals against average while Elyse Waterhouse has a 0.76 GAA and has posted three shutouts.
About Missouri S&T – The Miners enter the final weekend of the regular season looking to secure their first berth in the GLVC Tournament since finishing second at the 2014 GLVC Tournament. S&T heads into Friday's contest against Illinois Springfield with 18 points and is 5-4-3 in league play and 6-5-3 overall.
The Miners have scored 20 goals this season and have conceded 15. They're led in scoring by Sydney Gratz with six goals and four assists for a total of 16 points while Lily Chung and Paige VanDaele have scored three goals apiece. S&T leads the GLVC with nine shutouts this season and Kristin Steins has seven of those to lead the conference.
Series Stuff – Friday's contest marks the 15th meeting all-time between the Flyers and Saints with Lewis holding a 9-2-3 advantage in the series. The Flyers won last season's contest 2-1 at Lewis Stadium.
Lewis leads the all-time series against Missouri S&T 13-6-1 and has won seven of the last eight meetings including last season's 2-0 win in Romeoville.
