Flyers Return Home To Host Truman State And Quincy

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's soccer team returns home for a pair of matches this weekend hosting Truman State on Friday (Oct. 8) at 5:30 p.m. and Quincy on Sunday (Oct 10) at noon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers enter Friday's contest with a record of 5-1-2, 3-1-2 GLVC while the Bulldogs are 4-3-2, 3-2-2 GLVC. The Hawks enter Friday's contest at Illinois Springfield with a record of 3-6, 2-5 GLVC.

Lewis is coming off a 1-0 win at Illinois Springfield last Friday evening. Freshman forward Melisa Hadzic (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) scored her second game-winning goal of the season and leads the team in that category. Senior goalkeeper Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) made a season-high seven saves in goals and posted her fifth shutout of the season. She was rewarded for performance by being the named the GLVC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

GLVC Leaders – Fifth-year senior forward Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) is currently ranked tied for seventh in points with nine, tied for eighth for goals with three, and tied for first in assists with three. Hadzic is tied for seventh with two assists and tied for third in game-winning goals with two. Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) is currently fourth in the GLVC for save percentage at 80 percent and is tied at ninth in saves with 27.

Rankings – The Flyers  are seventh in this week's United Soccer Coaches Midwest Regional rankings. They're one of four GLVC teams ranked in this week's top 10. Indianapolis is at three, McKendree rose to fourth and Drury remained eighth.

About Truman State – Truman looks to bounce back against Lewis after a loss against McKendree this past Sunday (Oct. 3). The Bulldogs are led in scoring by Faith Branson with six goals for the season and one assist for a total of 13 points. Hanna Hickey is second with three goals with two assists. Goalkeeper Beth Hopwood has made 33 saves this season and has a save percentage of 84 going into this match-up.

About Quincy – The Hawks have dropped four straight conference games and are 1-4 in their last five matches overall. Quincy dropped a pair of one goal decisions last weekend to No. 21 Indianapolis 1-0 last Friday and 3-2 against Southern Indiana.
Lauren Crane leads the team in scoring with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Aliyah Rottger, Morgan Evans and Jessica Felix are tied for second on the team with two goals apiece. Olivia Kindt has seen a majority of the playing time in goal this season making 39 saves and has a goals against average of 1.38.

Series History – Lewis trails the all-time series against Truman State 5-6-4 but the two have gone back and forth in wins and losses the last four years. The Flyers were beaten by the Bulldogs this past spring 2-0 in Kirksville, Mo. Lewis is 4-2-2 all-time in matches played at Lewis Stadium.

Quincy leads the all-time series against the Flyers 18-6-1 dating back to 1988 and was won eight of the last 10 contests. Lewis snapped the Hawks four-game winning streak in the series two years ago with a 2-1 win at Lewis Stadium.

Up Next – Lewis heads to Kansas City for a pair of matches next weekend. The Flyers will take on Rockhurst next Friday (Oct. 15) at 5 p.m. and then will head to Liberty on Sunday to face William Jewell at noon.
