BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Lewis University's
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) set a new school record in the 60 meters and qualified for the finals in the event on Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
Hoffman finished second in the first of two heats with a time of 7.53 seconds besting the old mark held by Ashuanta McCormick which was set back in 2001 by 0.03 seconds. Hoffman finished behind Grand Valley State's Angelica Floyd who had the fastest time in the preliminary round at 7.48 seconds.
Hoffman's time was tied for third fastest in the prelims along with Fort Hays State's Lyric Holman.
The top four finishers in each heat qualified for Saturday night's final which will take place at 6:10 p.m.
Hoffman will be joined on Saturday by
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and
Anna Laudizio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) who will both be competing in the triple jump beginning at 5 p.m.
