ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday (July 8) that Lewis University's
Peter Carlson (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) and
Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) have been named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 At-Large Team. Both are now eligible for Academic All-America status.
Carlson, a sophomore face-off specialist on the men's lacrosse team, collected a 4.0 cumulative grade point average this year in business administration. Coenen, the two-time MIVA Player of the Year and five-time AVCA All-American, owned a 3.78 GPA pursing his Master's degree in business administration.
Carlson won 61.1 percent (107-of-175) of his faceoff attempts despite missing four games due to injury this season. He went a season-high 23-of-26 at the faceoff dot and also scooped up a season-high 18 ground balls in Lewis' 14-8 win over Davenport on Feb. 20. Carlson was rewarded for his performance by naming named the GLVC's Defensive Player of the Week for that week and was also named to the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II Team of the Week. He was also named First Team All-GLVC back in May and was a recipient of the GLVC's Br. James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar Award for both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years. Carlson was also named as the GLVC's Scholar-Athlete for men's lacrosse.
Coenen, who helped lead the Flyers to their second consecutive NCAA Final Four appearance, finished his career with 1,657 kills which ranks second all-time in school history in the rally scoring era and third overall while his 3.66 kills per set is good for second all-time in the rally scoring era and sixth overall. He also ranks third all-time in school history with 145 service aces and points scored with 1,966.5 and is sixth all-time in digs with 642. He was the MIVA Player of the Year in 2020 and 2021, the Most Outstanding Player for the 2021 MIVA Tournament and was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Assocation (AVCA) All-America First Team. He is a six-time recipient of Lewis' Br. David Delahanty Award for academic excellence among student-athletes as well as a six-time Academic All-MIVA honoree.
