Flyers Travel To Indianapolis To Take on Top Ranked Greyhounds

Lewis will head to Evansville, Ind., on Sunday to take on Southern Indiana.

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's soccer team travels to Indianapolis this Friday evening to take on the top ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) at Key Stadium. It's the start of a three-game road trip for the Flyers who'll also play at Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.

Last Time Out – Lewis split a pair of home contests last weekend defeating McKendree 2-1 in double overtime on Matthew Beaulieu's (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) goal with 0:53 remaining in double overtime. The Flyers suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday falling to Missouri-St. Louis 2-1 in double overtime.

Rankings – Lewis dropped two spots from fourth to sixth in this week's United Soccer Coaches Midwest Region rankings. The Flyers are one of five GLVC teams ranked in this week's poll with UIndy topping the region and the national poll while Maryville is second in the region and 21st nationally and is followed by Lewis then Illinois Springfield at seven and Missouri S&T checks in at nine.

League Leaders – Senior midfielder Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) is tied for second in the GLVC in goals scored with four and is third in points with nine. Fifth year senior forward Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) leads the conference in assists with five while Jayson Iniguez (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport Township), Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) and Nathaniel Campbell (Palm Bay, Fla./Heritage) are tied for second with three assists apiece. Mwanga is also tied for fifth in points with seven.

About UIndy – The Greyhounds enter Friday evening's contest with a record of 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the GLVC. The Hounds went 2-0 last weekend defeating Southern Indiana 3-0 last Friday and then defeated McKendree 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in Lebanon, Ill.

Friday's contest is between the top two scoring teams in the GLVC with UIndy and the Flyers tied for the league lead in goals with 15. Alejandro Steinwascher leads the Hounds in scoring with four goals and three assists for a total of 11 points. Dimitrios Karousos has played every minute in goal this season and has a goals against average of 0.80 and has posted three shutouts.

About Southern Indiana – The Screaming Eagles enter Friday's game against Illinois Springfield with a record of 1-3 overall and are 0-2 in the GLVC. USI lost to UIndy 3-0 last Friday at Key Stadium.
The Screaming Eagles have scored a total of four goals this season with all of those coming in a 4-3 overtime win against Davenport on Sept. 10. Four different players have tallied a goal for USI this season and are led in scoring by Zach Schoenstein with three points.

Series Stuff – Lewis leads the all-time series against UIndy 16-7-3 but the Greyhounds have won the last four in the series including both meetings last season. The Hounds defeated the Flyers 3-1 in Romeoville on March 7 and 2-0 in the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament at Lindenwood on April 23.

Lewis holds a 14-7-2 advantage in the series against Southern Indiana but the Screaming Eagles are 6-2-2 against the Flyers in the last 10 meetings. Last season, Lewis defeated USI 2-1 on Justin Darlage's (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) goal in the 54th minute at Lewis Stadium.

Up Next – The Flyers wrap up their three-game road trip with a trip to Springfield, Ill., to take on Illinois Springfield at 7:30 p.m.
