ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced on Wednesday (Feb. 16) that Lewis University's
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) has been named the GLVC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 12.
It's the second time in the last three weeks that she's won the award and third overall for her career as she was named Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week last year on March 26. Cardillo and
Jaden Christian (Braidwood, Ill./Braidwood (Reed-Custer)) have each won the award this season as Christian won it on January 20.
Cardillo won the triple jump at North Central's Pat Heenan Invite last Saturday improving her provisional mark with a leap of 12.15 meters (39'10.5") which is currently the top mark in the GLVC and is 14th in Division II. She also finished second in the long jump at North Central with a jump of 5.79 meters (19'0") which is a personal best mark for her indoors. Cardillo ranks first in the conference and 19th in Division II in the long jump.
The Flyers have their final tuneup meet before the GLVC Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday at North Central's Lee Slick Invitational beginning at 4 p.m. in Naperville, Ill.
