Chicago, Ill. – The Lewis University men's and women's swim teams competed on the road against the University of Chicago on Friday, October 24.
The Flyers recorded multiple event wins and several top-three finishes across individual and relay events throughout the meet. The women came up short with a score of 221–72 while the men with a score of 191–94.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The men's team opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as
Soma Bota Depinyi (Vecses, Hungary/Budapest IX. District Leovey Klara High School),
Pablo Solano (Carmel, Ind./Colegio De La Salle),
Davidson Vincent (Thomonde, Haiti/Westlake Preparatory School), and
Otavio Augusto De Moraes Cunha (São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Amorim Tatuape) finished in 1:33.13. The same quartet later combined for second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:24.75.
Juan Castro earned first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:35.17) and added another win in the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.18).
Andres Bodington (Caracas, Venezuela/Mars Hill) followed with a third-place finish in the 1,000 (9:46.18) and fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.92). Vincent recorded a win in the 100-yard butterfly (49.81) and placed fourth in the 200 fly (1:57.52). De Moraes Cunha secured two first-place finishes of his own — the 50-yard freestyle (21.38) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.21).
In other men's events, Depinyi placed third in the 100 backstroke (53.68), Solano De Vargas took third in the 100 breaststroke (57.92), and
Rhys Vale (Avon, Conn./Avon High School) was third in the 200 backstroke (1:58.89).
On the women's side, Lewis opened with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, with
Amelia Marsicek (Centennial, Colo./Regis Jesuit),
Geovana Seawright (São Paulo, Brazil),
Morgan Vis (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West), and Luna Cueva Schafer finishing in 1:50.52. The group of Cueva Schafer,
Johanna Coates (Lusaka, Zambia/Lusaka International Community School),
Dominique Dingshoff (Hoogeveen, Netherlands/Roelof Van Echten College), and Marsicek later placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.60).
Dingshoff won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:43.01 and added a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:09.90). Cueva Schafer recorded runner-up finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:58.10) and the 50 freestyle (25.04). Marsicek finished third in the 100 backstroke (59.58) and second in the 200 backstroke (2:06.62) while Seawright took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.19) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:14.66).
