Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's and women's swim team began the Ian Disteldorf era on a high note as they both defeated Saint Ambrose Saturday afternoon at the Lewis pool.
The Flyers men's unit took down the Fighting Bees. 156-104, while on the women's side, the Flyers won, 166-85.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Otavio De Moraes Cunha snagged four first place finishes for the Flyers as individually he placed first in the 50 yard freestyle (21.18), 100 yard freestyle (46.63) and was on the 400 yard freestyle relay team (3:08.62) and 200 yard medley relay (1:32.93) that finished atop the podium.Â
Davidson Vincent (Thomonde, Haiti/Westlake Preparatory School) aided the Flyers winning efforts as well as he was on the 400 yard freestyle relay team (3:08.62) and 200 yard medley relay (1:32.93) that finished atop the podium and claimed an individual first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle (1:44.32).
Also on his 200 yard medley relay team,
Colin Bade (La Grange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) took home three first place finishes of his own as he placed first in the 100 yard backstroke (52.31) and 200 yard backstroke (1:57.69). Eren Yarar landed two top finishes of his own in the 200 IM (1:56.01) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:11.36).Â
In the distance races for the men, Juan Castro collected a trio of individual first place finishes in the 1,000 yard freestyle (9:42.90), 500 yard freestyle (4:40.84) and was a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay team with Cunha.Â
On the women's side,
Amelia Marsicek (Centennial, Colo./Regis Jesuit) claimed four first place finishes with two individually in the 100 yard backstroke (59.54), 200 yard backstroke (2:08.26) and two on the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:40.07) and 200 yard medley relay (1:50.33). Her time of 2:08.26 in the 200 yard backstroke was just .06 shy of tying the pool record for the Flyers.Â
Luna Cueva Schafer was a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay and 200 yard medley relay squads that placed first and also picked up a individual first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle (25.32) as well. Her fellow member of the first place 200 yard medley relay,
Morgan Vis (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West), led the Flyers in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.93) with her top performance.Â
Dominique Dingshoff (Hoogeveen, Netherlands/Roelof Van Echten College) earned a first place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:50.97) and was a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay while her Billie Koehler paced the red and white in the 500 yard freestyle (5:25.77).

Lewis will head to Olivet Nazarene University on Oct. 10 for their first away meet of the year.Â
