Indianapolis, Ind. - The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced that men's swimmer
Juan Jose Castro (Cali, Colombia/Corporacion Cultural Colegio Aleman) takes the title of the GLVC swimmer of the week as well as
Amelia Marsicek (Centennial, Colo./Regis Jesuit) claiming the title for the GLVC on the women's side for their standout performances in the dual meet against Findlay and Hillsdale.
Juan Jose Castro (Cali, Colombia/Corporacion Cultural Colegio Aleman) put together a dominant showing on the men's side, highlighted by a 1st place finish in the 1000 Free with a time of 9:30.56. He added a strong 3rd place finish in the 100 Free (47.97)and competed in the 50 Fly, clocking 24.71 for 7th place. Juan closed out his meet by anchoring the 200 Free Relay with a 21.05 split, helping the Flyers to a competitive finish in the event.
The last men's Flyer to earn swimmer of the week was Jordan Yip in November of 2023.
On the women's side,
Amelia Marsicek (Centennial, Colo./Regis Jesuit) delivered a consistent and impactful performance across multiple events. She earned 3rd place in both the 50 Back (28.22) and 100 Back (1:00.26), showing her strength in the stroke throughout the meet. Amelia also led off the 400 Medley relay with a strong 1:00.01, securing a 4th place overall finish for the team, and rounding out the meet with a 2:18.03 finish in the 200 IM.
The last women's Flyer to win Swimmer of the week was
Luna Schafer (Playa Del Carmen, Mexico/The Trents) earlier this season.
The Flyers as a team are back in action from Nov. 20-22 at the IU Indy House of Champions Meet in Indianapolis, Ind.Â
