Romeoville, Ill. – Parkside led wire-to-wire as they defeated the Lewis University men's basketball team, 73-54, in intercollegiate men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Neil Carey Arena.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Paxton Warden (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) led Parkside (5-4) with 25 points while Josiah Palmer chipped in 14 points and team-best three assists of his own. Fawaz Surakat snagged 10 rebounds to help the Parkside winning effort. As a team, the Rangers shot at a clip of .352 (19-of-54) compared to .296 (21-of-71) for Lewis.
Arius Alijosius (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) tallied 22 points to lead all Lewis (2-8) scorers for the second consecutive game while
Ryan Hall (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) chipped in 10 points in the losing effort.
Cale Cosme (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) tallied a team-best eight rebounds in the loss.
Timofei Komissarov (St. Petersburg, Russia/GUTID) snagged a season-best four steals as well, the most by a Lewis player in a single game this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite both teams making less than 10 shots in the opening stanza, Parkside went a perfect 16-of-16 from the free-throw line to enter the locker room with a 36-18 edge.
Out of the break, both sides exchanged buckets throughout the start of the second half, but a 9-4 run, spurned by a triple from Hall, to cut the Rangers lead to 14, 55-41, with 9:41 remaining in the half.
The Rangers replied to the Lewis run with an 11-4 spurt of their own to expand their lead back to 21, 66-45, with 7:00 left.
Both sides exchanged buckets to the final whistle with Hall accounting for five of the final nine points for the Flyers.
GAME NOTES
- Today marked the 64th all-time meeting between Lewis and Parkside. It also marked only the second meeting between the two former GLVC rivals since 2018 with both meetings taking place in Romeoville.
- Alijosius is the first player since Rob Stroud (Danville, Ill./Kankakee CC) to have 15-or-more points in four consecutive contests. Strouds streak spanned 11 games for Jan. 30, 2025 against Missouri S&T to March 7 against Lincoln.
- Cosme led the Flyers in rebounding for the first time in his career
- Hall ended in double figure scoring for the third time this year
