Flyers Tabbed 12th in AVCA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Preseason Poll

Lexington, Ky. - The Lewis University men's volleyball team was tabbed 12th in the AVCA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Preseason Poll, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon. 
 
Lewis was the second highest MIVA team in the poll with 225 points and one of five teams from the conference to crack the top 20.

Along with the Flyers, Loyola Chicago (7th/349 points), Ohio State (14th/179 points), McKendree (15th/167 points) and Ball State (16th/144 points) also were apart of the initial top 20. UCLA topped the poll with 481 points and 12 first-place votes while Hawai'i came in second 473 points and seven first-place votes. This year, the red and white will battle both the top-ranked Bruins and Rainbow Warriors at the Outrigger Classic from March 12-14 in Honolulu, Haw. Defending national champions Long Beach State closed out the top three with 460 points and five first place votes. 

This season, Lewis will take on 10 of the other 19 teams that were ranked in the preseason top 20 with six matches at home against preseason top 20 opponents as well. 

Lewis opens its season on Jan. 9 against Menlo in Atherton, Calif., before facing No. 9 Stanford the next day. The Flyers will play their first home game on Jan. 13 against Roosevelt at 7:00 p.m. in Neil Carey Arena.
