NEW ORLEANS -- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2025 NCAA Division II All-Midwest Region Teams with the Lewis women's track and field team recording six members on the team across eight total events.
Aubrey Brinkman (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs HS),
Mary Edwards (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central),
Denise Hernandez (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS),
Katerina Kakavelaki (Heraklion of Crete, Greece), Karmen Kurowica,
Hannah Smrcka (Cory, PA/Cory).
Brinkman saw her name on the list in the discus throw event. The junior won the individual GLVC title in the event after her toss of 47.70m became an NCAA Division II Provisional Mark, qualifying her for the national meet.
Edwards was named to the Midwest region team after winning the steeplechase event at the GLVC Outdoor Championships with a time of 10:40.15. The sophomore recorded the qualifying time of 10:20.77 at the Bryan Clay Invitational to secure her spot in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.
Hernandez was awarded all-region in two separate events, for the long jump and triple jump. The junior broke the GLVC Outdoor Record in the long jump event during the 2025 GLVC Outdoor Championships with her leap of 6.46m, winning her the event.
In the triple jump, Hernandez recorded her best mark, also coming at the conference outdoor meet, with a measurement of 11.79m.
Kakavelaki earned All-Midwest Region in the long jump event, joining fellow teammate Hernandez. The freshman recorded a leap of 6.12m, achieving an NCAA Division II provisional mark and qualifying for the national meet.
Kurowica was named on the team in the high jump with her provisional mark of 1.73m during the 2025 GLVC Outdoor Championships, also earning a spot on the NCAA Division II Outdoor Meet.
Smrcka made it on the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters list after recording season best times of 16:09.42 and 33:48.71 in both events. The graduate student also won the individual GLVC Crown in the 5,000 meter race while qualifying for the NCAA Division II Meet in both events.
