Five Lewis Women's Track and Field Athletes Awarded USTFCCCA NCAA Division II All-American Honors

NEW ORLEANS -- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced that five Lewis women's track and field student-athletes were awarded USTFCCCA NCAA Division II All-Americans in their events. Mary Edwards (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central), Denise Hernandez (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS), Katerina Kakaelaki, Karmen Kurowicka (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park HS), Hannah Smrcka (Cory, PA/Cory) were all named all-americans.

Edwards achieved All-American second team status in the Steeplechase event after finishing in 12th place in the final on Saturday (May 24) after qualifying the day prior. 

Hernandez picked first team honors after recording the NCAA Division II Championship in the long jump event with her leap of 6.40 meters.

Kakaelaki picked up second team distinction during the long jump event after placing ninth in the event after recording a measurement of 6.00m.

Kurowicka achieved first-team honors after recording a podium finish in the high jump after her mark of 1.73m was a personal best and landed her in eighth place. 

Smrcka recorded a pair of second-team honors in two events in the 5,000 meter run and the 10,000 meter run. The senior ran the 5K in 17:10.60 while finishing the 10K in 35:46.79.
