Lewis Men's Soccer Voted to Win Second Consecutive GLVC Championship

Indianapolis, Ind. – After winning the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships, GLVC coaches voted for Lewis to reclaim their crown this upcoming fall as they finished atop the 2025 GLVC Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office announced Tuesday morning.

Receiving seven first place votes and a total of 186 points, the Flyers sit atop the pre-season poll, edging out in-state rival McKendree who accumulated 184 points and six first place votes to land in second place. GLVC Tournament runner-up Maryville came in third place with 168 points and earned one first place nod while the University of Indianapolis came in it at fourth with 167 points and nabbed a first place vote. UMSL (123), Drury (116), Rockhurst (114), Illinois Springfield (113), Lincoln (105), Missouri S&T (87), Quincy (59), Truman State (56), William Jewell (41), Upper Iowa (38) and Southwest Baptist (18) rounded out the remainder of the poll.

Welcoming in one of the largest recruiting classes in program history, the Flyers still have some familiar faces returning to the pitch this season. Senior defenseman Nicholas Rogalski (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) is back in the fold after being named GLVC First Team, CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team, and United Soccer Coach's All-Midwest Region Third Team. Also back for the red and white is Makonnen Stampley (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) and Mikey Revell (Largo, Maryland/Bishop McNamara). Last season, Stampley finished the regular season leading the Flyers in points with six goals and two assists and scored the game-winning penalty kick in the GLVC Tournament Championship against Maryville. As for Revell, he returns to Lewis after ending last year as the team leader in assists (7) while tallying two goals of his own. Other notable returners for the Flyers include Roman Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora East), Lance Somerfield (Orland Park, Ill./Eastern Illinois)Carson Czosnyka (Peoria, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor), Stefan Ziermann (Vienna, Austria/University of Economics) and Robert Gorodnickis (Riga, Latvia/Riga)

Back on the touchline for his 33rd season is 2024 GLVC Coach of the Year Evan Fiffles. The longtime manager enters the 2025 campaign with a total of 378 wins and looks to carry his team back to the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row. Last season the Flyers got out to a slow start with a 0-1-5 record, but followed their slow start with an exceptional run of conference games, finishing off their season 11-3-8 overall and with a 9-1-4 mark in GLVC play.

Lewis kicks-off the season in Hammond, In. against Purdue Northwest on September 4th at 4:00 p.m. Their first home and conference game is on September 14th at 2:30 p.m. when they welcome Quincy to Romeoville. Single game tickets and season passes for all men's soccer games can be purchased here.
