Romeoville, Ill. - After a strong performance at the National Catholic Invite, junior
Mary Edwards (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Runner of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday morning.
Edwards is the first Lewis athlete this season in any sport to collect any weekly award from the GLVC and the first male or female Flyers runner to earn the honor since
Lilia Alvarez (Omaha, Neb./Omaha South Magnet) and Luke Noren swept the weekly awards on Oct. 9, 2024.
At the National Catholic Invite on Sept. 19, Mary won the Small School Division (Non- DI) race with a 5k time of 17:51 with a mark that was 47 seconds faster than last year at the same meet. The Indianapolis, Ind., native also helped lead the Flyers to a team small school championship as well as a 2nd overall team finish beating six D1 program in the process.
Edwards and the rest of the Flyers are back in action on October 4th when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take part in the Seminole Valley Stampede.
