Lewis Sophmore
Jaden Jaime (Kankakee, Ill./Herscher) earned the title of first Lewis goalscorer of the 2025 season off of an assist from
Roman Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora East). The goal would come only a few minutes prior to halftime and The Flyers would hold out to take a lead into the break. Lewis would add two more goals in the second half, off the feet of
Carson Czosnyka (Peoria, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor) and
Mario Ramirez (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) to give the Flyers a 3-0 score. Lewis Freshman
Yoan Zagorov (Sofia, Bulgaria) played a full 90 between the pipes for Lewis allowing no goals on three shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a long first half with several chances in the box, at 43:45 Hernandez broke past his defender and streaked towards the end line with the ball at his feet. A powerful shot by Hernandez was blocked by the Pride goalkeeper but a trailing Jaime was there waiting to slam a shot into the back of the net. Lewis would walk into halftime with a 1-0 lead over the Pride.
Lewis played the opening minutes of the second half in the defensive end as the Pride strung together several passes and shot attempts to hold the Flyers offense at bay. The Pride moved quickly through the Flyers defense and put a pass past Zagarov, and a slow roller which was set to cross the goal line was denied by captain
Nicholas Rogalski (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) with a slide which cleared the ball. At the 60 minute mark the Flyers broke out and a shot by
Mikey Revell (Largo, Maryland/Bishop McNamara) from the left side went high and wide. Revell stayed focused as he and Hernandez set up Czosnyka at the top of the key where he curved a shot into the upper left corner to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead.
The Lewis defense continued to come up big fighting off any chance at a Purdue Northwest comeback. The Flyers cleared the ball after a corner kick which allowed for a perfect trap and spin by Freshman Ramirez as he turned his body and raced towards the goal. He beat both defenders and met Pride goalkeeper Mateus Baptista de Souza at the top of the box where he sliced the ball the right scoring the Flyers third goal of the evening.
