HOW IT HAPPENED IN ROMEOVILLE
The Flyers turned in a strong performance at the Purdue Northwest meet in Romeoville against Purdue Northwest and Dominican University, shaking off the rust after Christmas break and showing promising early-season form. Lewis delivered multiple standout performances and several marks approaching the NCAA standard.
Abraham Christian (Huntley, Ill./Huntley HS) highlighted the men's field events with a personal best leap of 2.11 meters in the high jump, securing an NCAA-qualifying mark. In the throws, Ben Saucedo () posted a PR of 18.10 meters in the weight throw and narrowly missed the NCAA standard, continuing a strong trend from the Flyers' throwing group. Brian Holmes (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS) also recorded a personal best of 7.57 in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing just off the national qualifying mark.
On the women's side, Denise Hernandez (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS) continued her impressive start to the season, earning an NCAA-qualifying mark in the long jump with a leap of 6.00 meters. On the track, Kristina Findley (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) placed second in the 600 meters (1:43.92), while Kamile Bickute () followed closely in third (1:46.14). Madison Findley (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) added another podium finish, taking second in the mile with a time of 5:38.21.
The men's distance group also had a strong showing, led by Declan Hurley's (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) third-place finish in the mile (4:38.92). Carter Pankiewicz (Plainfield, Ill./Oswego East), Sadri Ozgul (Burr Ridge, Ill./Stagg), and Gerry Cushing () rounded out a strong showing with fourth, sixth, and seventh-place finishes, respectively. Oscar Montiel (Worth, Ill./Shephard) added a third place result in the 600 meters, crossing the line in 1:31.07.
Overall, it was a solid home opener for the Flyers, highlighted by NCAA-qualifying performances, personal records, and encouraging signs as the team builds momentum heading deeper into the indoor season.
