Romeoville, Ill. - After helping the Flyers win their first two matches of the season,
Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach) and
Diego Estrada (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Adianez) were tabbed the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
It marks the first time Lewis swept the MIVA weekly awards since Carlos Jimenez was named the MIVA Defensive Player of the Week and Kevin Kauling was tabbed the leagues Offensive Player of the Week on March 9, 2021.
For Haber, he ended the opening weekend of play with seven total blocks, 14 digs and 21 total kills. Against Menlo, the Remsenburg, N.Y., native tallied 11 kills with three total blocks and seven digs to lead the Flyers past the Oaks. The next day against then No. 9 Stanford, Haber tallied four blocks, seven total digs and 10 kills to aid in the red and whites 3-0 upset win.
As for Estrada, he tallied 67 assists, two aces and two kills en route to his weekly accolade. The Puerto Rico national team member had a then career-high 29 assists along with six digs and a kill in Lewis' 3-0 win over Menlo to begin the 2026 campaign. He broke his own career-high the next day against the Cardinal with 38 assists while adding in a dig and two aces of his own.
The now No. 9 nationally ranked Flyers are back in action this evening against Roosevelt at home. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
