#9 Men's Volleyball Makes it Three in a row with Sweep of Roosevelt

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 9 Lewis Men's Volleyball team picked up their third consecutive victory with a sweep of Roosevelt Tuesday evening at Neil Carey Arena.

The Flyers improved to 3-0 while Roosevelt dropped to 0-1.

IMPACT PLAYERS
Oguzhan Oguz (Bursa, Turkey/Ocean) paced Lewis with 13 kills while reigning AVCA National Player of the Week Diego Estrada (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Adianez) amassed 28 assists. On the defensive side of the ball, Nico Paula (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Preparatory School) led Lewis with seven digs while Long Island native Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach) tallied two total blocks. As a team, Lewis posted a .529 (41-5-68) hitting percentage compared to .212 (26-12-66) clip for the Lakers.

Kajetan Bieniek and Mark Zmodjin each had six kills for Roosevelt while Martino bertagnoli notched 17 assists. Zmodjin tied Paula for the match-high in digs with seven.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Tied 11-all midway through the first set, the Flyers offense was cleared for take-off as an Oguz kill sparked an 8-2 run that broke the deadlock and vaulted Lewis ahead, 19-13. The two Chicagoland rivals traded the next handful of scores, but the red and white scored three of the final four points of the stanza to take set one, 25-17 and a 1-0 match lead.

The Flyers dominated the second set as they hit at a season-best .706 (13-1-17) and used multiple long scoring runs to claim the set, 25-13 and open up a 2-0 match lead.

After trading the first handful of scores to begin the third set, Lewis broke away for good as a Lakers service error ignited an 8-3 spurt that pushed Lewis ahead, 16-9. The Flyers offense never slowed down and ended the match on a 5-1 run to claim the 25-15 set three victory and seal the straight sets win.
