HOW IT HAPPENED IN INDIANAPOLIS
The Flyers delivered a strong two-day performance at the Hoosier Horsepower Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana, competing Friday and Saturday against a deep field. Lewis recorded multiple event victories, NCAA-qualifying marks, and season-best performances across sprints, jumps, hurdles, throws, and relays.
Day 1 – Friday, January 16
Lewis opened the meet with a standout performance in the men's weight throw as senior Levi Graham (Plainfield, Ill./Minooka) captured first place with a mark of 21.12 meters, earning an NCAA qualifying standard. In the men's long jump, freshman Jayden Washington secured his first collegiate victory with a leap of 6.59 meters, while Nicholas Stanislaus (St. David, Grenada) added a third-place finish at 5.83 meters.
On the track, the Flyers made an impact in the sprints. Cagini Pilgrim finished second in the men's 60 meters with a time of 6.96, followed closely by D'Quan Williams (/Diamond Secondary School) in third at 6.97. Williams later added another podium finish in the 200 meters, placing third with a time of 22.01.
In the women's invitational long jump, Denise Hernandez (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS) placed third with a mark of 5.75 meters, adding to her strong early-season momentum.Â
Day 2 – Saturday, January 17
Saturday featured several top performances for the Flyers, highlighted by Brian Holmes' (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS) victory in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.20. The men's sprint group dominated the 60 meters, sweeping the top three spots as D'Quan Williams (/Diamond Secondary School) claimed first in 6.96, Tyler Toussaint (Castries, Saint Lucia) finished second in 6.99, and Cagini Pilgrim placed third in 7.01.
In the field events, Abraham Christian (Huntley, Ill./Huntley HS) recorded a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing a season-best 2.12 meters, an NCAA qualifying mark. The Flyers also earned a second-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay, as Adrien Manning (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka), Cagini Pilgrim, Aidan Killmer (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park HS), and Brian Holmes (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS) crossed the line in 3:20.36.
The women's jumps group kept the momentum going. Karmen Kurowicka (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park HS) won the high jump with a season-best clearance of 1.71 meters, meeting the NCAA qualifying standard. Veronika Walkosz () added a third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.33 meters.
