Box Score Kansas City, Mo. – Jaylen Wesley, Drenin Dinkins and Jaden Flournoy accounted for 49 of Rockhursts 96 points as the Lewis University men's basketball team fell on the road to the Hawks, 96-68, in Great Lakes Valley Conference men's basketball action Thursday night.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Wesley led all scorers and the Hawks (13-5, 7-3 GLVC) with 24 points while Dinkins and Flournoy added in 19 and 16 points, respectively. Dillion Mong led the Rockhurst effort on the glass with five rebounds while Peyton Newburn added in a team-best three assists.
Jackson Connor (Marion, Ill./Marion) led the Flyers (4-13, 2-7 GLVC) scoring efforts with a season-high 14 points while
Vinko Polovic (Milwaukee, Wisc./Bosco Institute) and
Cale Cosme (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) added in 11 scores each. Cosme,
John McCrear (Detroit, Mich./Woodford County) and
Billy Durkin (Hinsdale, Ill./Wheaton) were tied for the team-lead in rebounds with six with Cosme also contributing a game-high five assists. Lewis ended the contest going 24-of-61 (.393) from the field compared to Rockhurst who shot a clip of .516 (32-of-62)
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was all Rockhurst from the tip as the hosts scored 17 of the first 21 points of the game with Wesley notching five scores of his own during the opening minutes. The Flyers and Hawks traded scores over the middle part of the stanza, but a short 7-3 run which featured all seven points coming from Polovic, brought Lewis to within nine, 27-18, at the 10:38 mark.
That was as close as the Flyers got for the rest of the night as the Hawks limited red and white to just five makes from the field for the remainder of the first half and entered the locker room with a 52-29 edge.
Rockhurst never relented in the second half and expanded their lead to as much as 33 with 5:35 to play and ended the contest winning by 28, 96-68. Still, Lewis ended the contest on a high note as they scored eight of the final 13 points of the night.
GAME NOTES
- Despite the loss, Lewis still leads the all-time series against Rockhurst, 16-8.
- Mac Hagmaster knocked down the first 3-pointer of his career with one minute left in the contest.
- Cosme tallied five-or-more assists for the fourth time this year.
- Polovic finished in double figures for scoring for the first time since Dec. 13 at Wayne State. His 11 points are also a career-high.

Lewis will head south to play Southwest Baptist on Jan. 24 with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
