Evansville, Ind. - The Lewis University men's and women's swimming team took to the water on day one of the GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships, sending four teams to the 800 Freestyle Relay.
On the women's side, the Lewis A relay, comprised of
Luna Schafer (Playa Del Carmen, Mexico/The Trents),
Geovana Seawright (São Paulo, Brazil),
Natasha Sheehy (Sydney, Australia/MLC School) and
Do Dingshoff (Hoogeveen, Netherlands/Roelof Van Echten College), placed fifth with a time of 7:45.14. Drury won the race with a time of 7:20.53 while UIndy (7:26.12) edged out McKendree (7:27.24) to earn the second.
On the men's side, the Flyers squad composed of Juan Castro, Otavia Cunha,
Andres Bodington (Caracas, Venezuela/Mars Hill) and
Eren Yarar (Adana, Turkey/TED Mersin College) also earned a fifth place finish with a final time of 6:38.02. McKendree posted a time 6:25.51 to claim first. Drury touched the wall second in 6:26.58, while Indianapolis rounded out the top three at 6:26.61.
Day two of the GLVC Championships begins Wednesday morning with the 200 Individual Medley, 50 Free, and the first two heats of the 1000 Free, beginning at 10 a.m.
