Evansville, Ind. - The Lewis University men's and women's swimming team returned to the water this Wednesday for the second day of the GLVC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
On the women's side, Dom Dingshoff, Billie Koehler (Denver, Col./Grandview), Wiktoria Cioch-Gradzik (Slaska, Poland/X High School of Sports Championship), Elaina Veome (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central High School) and Natasha Sheehy (Sydney, Australia/MLC School) (Sydney, Australia) all participated in the 1000 Yard Free. Dominique started off strong, with her best finishing time coming in at 28.40 seconds, which contributed to landing her in spot number seven with a total finishing time of 10:31.07. Billie Koehler (Denver, Col./Grandview) came about 7 seconds behind, as she finished with a 10:38.12 time, joining Dominique as the only two Flyers on the women's team to make it into the top 10. UMSL's Justice T Beard claimed the top place with a 9:49.78 time, while Drury's Rianne Y Rose came in at second with a 10:20.50 time,
For the men's side, Juan Castro, Andres Bodington (Caracas, Venezuela/Mars Hill), Eren Yarar (Adana, Turkey/TED Mersin College), Rhys Vale (Avon, Conn./Avon High School) took part in the Men's 1000 yard free. Juan Castro was the only men's Flyer that managed to make it into the top 10 for the day, with a final time of 9:19.79, tying at ninth place with Indy's Emmett L. Shank Indy's Swann Plaza took the first spot with a final time of 8:53.72R, while MKU's Miguel Carvalhosa came a few seconds short of the top spot, with a final time of 8:58.15 that saw him win second place.
Day three of the GLVC Championship will continue tomorrow (Feb, 12.), set to start with the 100 Yard Butterfly at 10 a.m.
